[SOLVED!] Which license to use for a new Linux Mint logo? Proprietary?

Post by sebastjava »

I created a new version of the official Linux Mint logo. It's not the same but it looks like the original.
New version of logo, presentation: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=280401

Rationale: The official SVG file has a proprietary license. So it seems to me that my logo, inspired by the original, must be under a proprietary license. I simply selected "License: Proprietary" in the Inkscape "Document Properties" and added the metadata displayed in the image below.

It's just a logo proposal right now. I do not know if it will become official or not. But I may also distribute my logo as an optional replacement for the Linux Mint boot screen theme (Plymouth) and things like that.

Official, current logo, SVG file: https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier ... l_Logo.svg
Proposed new version: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17WpSxp ... sp=sharing
I saved my new version this way:
Inkscape > Document Properties > License: Proprietary
Inkscape > Document Properties > Metadata:
Mint-Y-LOGO-Metadata.png

I am tired. I would appreciate if this could be simple. Thank You.
Proudly made on Linux Mint Mate 18.3.

At very least you'll have to give attribution I think, and state it's a modified work. I've asked for clarification and will update here.

Edit: responded to your PM with info about license and authors.

Original SVG file: links removed.
Original SVG file: tried to delete it from GoogleDrive.
Original SVG file: OK on my local hard drive.
Waiting for clarification about license and metadata... Not just waiting; reading this: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Core
Started to clean and complete the metadata... I admit i should have done that before. Sorry about that.

Topic SOLVED!

The License that MUST be used is: GPLv3+

The SVG file of the proposed new version of the Linux Mint logo should be available in the upcoming days on the presentation and VOTE! page: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=280401

This SVG file is still not available yet because there is also the Metadata currently being edited... and checked. But, as i said, it will probably be available in just a few days from now.

Edit: many thanks to xenopeek for is help.
