Reboot V Restart

Post by TopEnder »

I Think it's about time Linux Mint got their act together. When one does an update, a pop-up message appears on the screen to "Reboot" but there is no reboot button/key. One has to restart the system, suggest the wording should be changed to reflex the correct process.

Just remember that the UI and messages have to be translated into many different languages. So the i18n contributors who decide on the terminology settle on the best descriptions to translate effectively into the majority of languages.

Also only a problem for pedants I guess, seriously there are more disturbing issues than that in the world to deal with
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

'Reflex' - "performed without conscious thought as an automatic response to a stimulus".

A bit like what I do when I see a 'reboot' message :)

"Reflex the correct process" - what does that mean?

We've been using "Reboot" as a term involving computers for the past four decades so there are probably a lot of users, English speaking, who know what it means.

Restart turns the machine off to stop all processes, clear the RAM, and clear the processor cache
Reboot is just a power cycle of the unit itself
