Hello!
One thing, which I would do anyway if I build a Computer myself is to redesign the Network Interface so that it would have separate on/auto (turn it on only if computer is on) switch from computer:
- It should support USB stick, where you can ptut a server; it should support one-to-two/three/four cables for several usb sticks.
- And/or SATA connector.
- And/or Cable for internal SATA connector.
- It should have memory on it's own (1 GB).
- A processing device (80 MHz; 1GHz).
Use cases: nobody wants to keep their computer on all the time, but there are many people, who won't switch off the router.

Re: Idea for Always-On Network Card
You want a nic with a SATA connector?
what?
what?
Re: Idea for Always-On Network Card
Think poster is referring to NAS drive access via layer 2/3 link to router. That's the only reason I can think to want SATA actively talking to the NIC all the time.
