Request for right-click mount option.

Post by registereduser »

My MATE Tricia 19.3 is mounting my NTFS C: drive as read only. I don't know how to mount it as read write, but I noticed a right-click menu to "mount" the drive. Could it be added in a future version to have "Mount as- (Read only) - (Read Write) " that way it will make it much easier. I have tried everything that I can comprehend to get this drive mounted read/write. I need to do maint on the windows OS, there is some corruption in the thumbnail cache so I need to delete the files but they are in use in Windows and read-only in Linux.

Your problem is a Windows issue. Otherwise, Mint would have mounted the C: partition read-write, which is what it's been doing until now, right? What you need to do is run chkdsk. Probably will solve the problem and, even if not, it's the usual first step.

As for your suggestion, be aware, developers don't hang out in user forums. Also, I doubt they would see the need. Default is read-write. Someone wanting read-only generally will be editing fstab (which controls mounts at boot) and, if they know how to do that, they also know how to do read-only. Read-only also can be done with the mount command in Terminal, by the way. Not everything can go in the GUI. There isn't enough room.
