Linux Mint 17 - ESM Updates?

Hey linux mint,
I am still using linux mint 17 Qiana on one of my computers, which didn't recieve any updates in months, if not years, until a couple days ago : I got 100+ updates with the esm suffix

Are there any news or announcement about this ? coudln't find any on https://linuxmint.com/ home page

A quick Google throws up this : https://ubuntu.com/security/esm

"Extended Security Maintenance - Security updates for 14.04 LTS until 2022".

Not familiar with this myself, but seems if you have an Ubuntu account you can sign up for this service?

Would that automatically impact mint users ? and should Mint maintainers communicate about it ? Also, I didn't subscribe for anything, I got the EMS updates for free it seems.
