donors and sponsors

Post by NoHo Hank »

I came into this info about donors and sponsors https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4336
It shows money given by donors, but how do the sponsors contribute? And which amounts do they pay?
Did i misunderstood Mozilla + Alphabet is a big sponsor too?! There was this big miscommunication about googel being standard searchengine in FF.

Limited? No, if you want to sponsor at a higher amount you can contact Clement and he can create a Platinum sponsor level with additional benefits.

We are curious(additional) benefits, what does that mean? Is there a list of the amount of monthly/ annual income by donors and sponsors? Is there any income by other means?

Additional benefits meaning more exposure on the Linux Mint websites.

What is published is on the main website. Have a look around on the donors and sponsors and pages.

What you are saying is count the sponsors and do the math?
What about the costs, is there any publicity on that?

Well let's put it this way: Is there a public online annual financial report? If so where to find?

No there is not. Never has been. Linux Mint is a very small project.
Since it is not a public corporation or charity there is not any requirement to issue any public financial statements.
I don't think KDE or any of the others issue financial reports.
There is very little money to be made in these FOSS projects and Linux Distributions.
It's done because people are passionate at what they do!
Every dollar donated to help with the operating costs is greatly appreciated.

I think "Linux Mint is a very small project." is no good reason not to be transparent. Nor that it is "not mandatory". Nor that others might also not be transparant. Especially for something as important as a OS.

In any case, there will be an organisational structure. I assume it will be public. Where can you find it?

The only time they would be obligated to start making such accounts information available is if Linux Mint Project ever became a public limited company, which currently it is not.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.
