Re: Name of program

I read some of your forum and found it cute the comments about the name of your program. I have a question. Who is Bianca and why was the name connected with Mint. Is there a picture? I am impressed however with the program. I will use this program for a while. It appear you are serious about support and a good product. I am using it in the VM world at the moment. I will see if I can get the sound to work. Everything else works even WIFI. I am using a HP L2005 Lance Armstrong Edition Notebook Computer. It does have an odd sound card. Keep up the good work I am impressed: Just curious.D

Welcome Mrc.
But Monsieur Phillipe, why didn't you tell our friend mrc to look at the picture of Bianca at the Mint Café?
Random>The Mint Café :)
Mrc, she is visiting for a few days and she might sign some virtual autographs too. :)

Each release has a codename which follows the following rules:
- Ends in "a"
- is a Girl's name
- starts with the letter that corresponds to the first part of the version number in the alphabet ("A" for 1.x, "B" for 2.x...etc)
- is alphabetically greater than all previous codenames used for Linux Mint.

In practice this gives something like:
1.0 Ada, 2.0 Barbara, 2.1 Bea, 2.2 Bianca, 2.3 Bo.....a, 3.0 Ca...a, 3.1 Ce...a

Why the requirement of a girl's name?

Name for the next version

Post by lfelipe »

I think the tradition of girls names for the version should continue.

Considering the explanation gave by clem, I'd like to suggest the name "Daniela" for the next version of Mint.

It's a girl's name, ends in "a", starts with "d" (next letter in the order) and it's not a short name.

What about it?

I hate that keverything naming...

how about Linux Mint G Bianca, Linux Mint K Bianca, Linux Mint X Bianca... could easily create some fancy logo addons with just one letter in there...

also... we should stick with clems naming standard IMHO... but I also like the idea of using celestial names which would fit that standard... that's a VERY good idea IMO...

Using boy names is not really my thing..... "I'm running Bruno on my lap top"... - how gay can you get?
Windows is extremely fast after a fresh install. If you want to make it stay that way: - don't use it.

Example:

Regular Gnome- Mint

KDE- Peppermint

XFCE- Spearmint

Light Edition- Cool Mint or just Light Edition

If you look in Wikipedia under Mentha (Mint) species, there are a lot of different awesome names. For example "aquatica", "crispata", etc. They (of course) sound weird, but that would be closely related to mint.

Anyway, here's the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mint#Species

Re: Name for the next version

I think that the tradition to put girls name on the Distro is an very interesting thing because there are some reason and should mean that Linux Mint is: Nicely, lovely, Pretty, Helpfully and steal your heart likes a really girl can do with your facilities to do something without stress...

and for the idea from my friend:

I can say that Daniela can be the first but if comes another release, they should be named Debora or Dora.

example:
Linux Mint Daniela 4.0
Linux Mint Debora 4.2 beta
Linux Mint Dora 4.8 Beta

And For another comming releases:

5-Emanuela,
6-Fabiana or Fernanda,
7-Gabriela,
8-Helena,
9-Ivana,
10-Jessica or Julia,
11-Katharina,
12-Lara, Laura, Leticia, Lisa,
13-Martina or Magdalena,
14-Nathalia,
15-Patricia,
16-Rafaela or Rebecca,
17-Sabrina,
18-Vanessa.

What do you people think about that?

thanks, Mayku.

Doesn't make sense. :? We're not at "P" and "N" yet, and "A" is out of the question, as we already are past the letter "A" ... and that release was called Ada. ... see below:

The sense behind a naming system is that you stick to it  Known Linux Mint releases so far:

- Ada (Mint 1.x)
- Barbara (Mint 2.0)
- Bea (Mint 2.1)
- Bianca (Mint 2.2)
- Cassandra (Mint 3.0)
- Celene (Mint 3.1 ?)

So the next one will probably be Daniela ... ?

good points chem. I like those rules.

Having alphabetical order match chronological order is most important in my eyes. Files will automatically be sorted.

I do think that you guys are going a little overboard on naming. Is there really that much difference between gnome mint and kde mint to give it another code name. Its not like its a new model, its just a revision. I'd have to agree with just tagging KDE or GNOME to it. No reason to flood the community with more useless naming terminology,,, thats just elitism.

Wow, I never know that people's discussing 'bout naming here... :o

Guys, just wondering (and I hope it's true), what if our beloved Mint ever exceeded 26.x (the 'Zeta' I guess?). What will the next release's name after 26.x be? Well, I really longing for the 27.x and so.
What say you? -'King' Aragorn of Gondor-
Let's keep our beloved Mint alive and kickin'
 DON'T visit Indonesia!
