Thank you to everyone who has or are going to donate.
This was very unexpected  and started from people asking about a x64 edition of Xfce CE. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 44#p220061
This will mean I should be able to make a 64 bit Edition of Linux Mint 9 Xfce CE.

The obligations that Kendall speaks of is taking care of my wife who has many health problems.
April is going to be crazy for me as my wife has many things going on.
1st she is going to fly to a clinic to get a 3rd opinion about her jaw problems.
Then when she gets back she has to schedule a surgery to remove the ovarian cyst.
I think there is another thing going on but can't remember it at the moment.
I hope that the months after aren't as busy so I can work on Xfce CE Isadora.
I would like to get it out sooner than the last 2.

I currently have a custom built computer.
My Custom Build Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte P4 Titan GA-8IPE1000-G http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Mothe ... uctID=1863
CPU: P4 Prescott 3.2 GHz FSB 800MHz Socket 478 (upgraded to it this year)
RAM 2 Gigs DDR400 (just added a Gig this year)
GPU: Geforce 5700 Ultra 128MB (just changed from a 5700LE)
Hard drives: 5 drives 4 IDE and 1 SATA. 500GB WD, 640GB Samsung, 160GB WD, 120GB WD, 40GB Maxtor(used for testing Xfce CE).

For the newer PC does anyone know which ones to avoid because of problems with Linux Mint/Ubuntu?

A perfect looking system ! I have never had a problem with ASUS, AMD chipsets without ATI graphics is nice ! I'm a system builder too, and you are looking forward, completely upgradeable. Great choices . . LG Burner with Lightscribe ?

One of those new "green" hard drives ?

good luck, richy :)

Just a word about the case. I can't speak to this particular one, but I've built about 20 towers over the last 7 years and used different brands of cases, but the one Rosewill case I used was so flimsy I ended up throwing it away. I've kind of learned to avoid the Rosewill brand on anything, because it seems they are very cheaply made.

Yeah, I've used some Cooler Masters. They are generally ok. You can go ahead with the Rosewill and switch it out later on. I like Antec cases myself. I could never afford a Lian Li.
Good luck, and I hope you'll post some pictures of the new rig. :)

Yea I was thinking of just buying it and if I didn't like I could buy a different one later.
The one I have is cheap and doesn't seem flimsy.
The side panels are somewhat but haven't had any problems with it.
Also good Idea on the pics never thought of doing that until you talked about it.

Why don't you do a "build it and install OS from scratch" tutorial? Not everyone builds their own towers, and it would give the new builders, and those new to Linux a nice "how to". 8)

Here is an idea of what I was thinking of getting.
Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811147109
Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136073
Motherboard(Reviews say it works with linux): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131603
Graphics Card(darxide has it in a Helena install): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814261059
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817182069
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231276
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103846
DVD Burner(deka316 has it with a Helena Install): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827106335
Total: $568.92(with shipping)

Anyone have any Input on what should be changed?
Anything incompatible with Linux?

Not sure what the total amount of all the donations but think it's about $600.

We have reached our goal of getting the financial support necessary to completely build the necessary system. As of next Wednesday I'll be completely shutting off donations for this particular purpose, closing the Paypal account, and sending Merlwiz a cashier's check for the total amount of the donations received via Paypal and by Mail.

I would very much like to thank everyone who donated to this cause. Anyone wishing to further support this should make their donations directly to Linux Mint. Again thanks.

Completed Build

Post by merlwiz79 »

My wife just had surgery so the update was delayed.
I added more pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/31132934@N ... 758136706/
This pc is so quiet compared to my old one it's unbelievable.
The old one sounds like a tornado compared to the new one.

Thanks to all those who donated.

Thank you Merlwiz!

You crank out the Xfce edition despite personal problems that would cause 99.999% of others to just throw in the towel. Not only is your work much appreciated but it is also the greatest Xfce distro in the Linux pantheon. I am sure I speak for everyone who donated when I say it is the LEAST we could do to help further your efforts.

God bless you and your family and thank you.

Sean
