What is this "Public"? Is it a folder created by mint or do I have to create it?

Mint created it. It's located right here:
wally@testmint ~ $ ls -dl $HOME/Public
drwxr-xr-x 2 wally wally 4096 Jun 5 21:28 /home/wally/Public

Open a terminal and run:

Code: Select all

touch /home/wally/Public/test.txt

Then run:

Code: Select all

nemo /home/wally/Public

Do you see the test.txt file?

If you do then you should be able to see it from Win10.
[sharemint]
path=/home/wally/Desktop/sharemint
comment=
usershare_acl=Everyone:F,
guest_ok=y

OK, you created a samba share from Nemo not in smb.conf. The Win10 machine should be able to write ( add files ) to that share because nemo adjusted the permissions for that. TO confirm:

Code: Select all

ls -dl /home/wally/Desktop/sharemint

THere may be an issue with wally and the win10 user editing files within that share but we can fix that as long as "wally" is the only user on this box.

OK, Public is working (r/w) in both directions. :D

Files in sharemint (WIN) are read only, but I do not care. I can use Public.

Thank you for your help!

Question if you don't mind:

1) I have no idea what Nemo is?

2) Could you recommend a good (simple) command line text editor (for someone who has always used GUI)? I assume there will be times when I will have to use editor.
Twenty years on M/S Windows; now it's time to learn Linux
Mint 18.2 Sonya Cinnamon 3.4.4 Kernel: 4.10.0-28-generic_64 (64 bit)

Your file manager. On the desktop it is labelled Home
2) Could you recommend a good (simple) command line text editor (for someone who has always used GUI)? I assume there will be times when I will have to use editor.

The default text editor in Mint is xed. From the Mint Menu : Accessories > Text Editor

If you really want a command line text editor I use ( very very rarely ) nano mainly because I can never remember how to navigate vi.
