If you are running something 15+ years old you may wish to consider using a 32-bit distro. antiX and PeppermintSO are the two I'm most familiar with...

As for me I run Debian, Mint & Devuan with dwm,i3wm,openbox using either the testing version or Liquorix kernels.

I don't mess around with old distros, no point in it.

I dual boot two linux distros, Mint and MX Linux.

When it comes to Mint, as of this posting I'm using 64 bit Mint 21 (Vanessa) Xfce.

LMDE5 64-bit Cinnamon which is the proper LMDE configuration. It doesn't really look like it because I have messed with the layout, fonts, default apps and made my own colour theme using Mint-Yz as a base.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Mint 21 Cinnamon
LMDE 5 (also Cinnamon of course)
Mint 21 xfce
Manjaro KDE for now, may change

Have never used the Mate edition but it appears to have about twice the usage of xfce; might have to try it out.

Mint Mate with Compiz WM.

Some Thinkpads are updated to Mint 21, others still on Mint 20, and even 19 (daily driver), but that will change soon.

I use LMDE 5 right now, even though I'm not a Cinnamon enthusiast. I always used Mint MATE since I love MATE, but I'm really sick of Ubuntu, that's why I switched to LMDE. I hope in the future there will be a MATE edition of LMDE  Or that the whole Mint system will get Debian base as main distro

I am not a good 'geek' for Linux use, but so far it functions well enough for me. My computer currently runs on -

Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon

And I get the feeling more lately that upgrading will be necessary since several things are getting quite fractured. I put off doing this - I hate updates! since it requires backing up and saving all the necessary files that support the likes of browsers and other programs. NEVER had an update go smoothly!! However after looking into going back to (double ugh) Windows OS, will have to grit my teeth, cross my fingers and bite the update. Guess I'll end up with Cinnamon 21 once the 'new' dust settles.
