Forum Issues/Slowness
Forum Issues/Slowness
Hello All,
Is there issues with the Mint servers? The forums are terribly slow, even unusable. It will often not even connect/load. I have to try refreshing several times.
TIA

I had the same issues for a long time. Sometime it simply did not response.
Each time I thought it was just me...
But then other forums and website responded much faster.

Re: Forum Issues/Slowness
I've noticed this for the last week or so. Seems most noticeable at the early part of the day in EST. Right now around 10 PM EST seems pretty good.

took me about 15 minutes just to post this....
meanwhile, surf so many other websites and forums without any issue.

Re: Forum Issues/Slowness
I've tried to reply to this thread several times. The performance of the forums is truly horrible.

Re: Forum Issues/Slowness
Yeah, forum performance has hit rock bottom. About 3:30 PM MST here now, bad performance any time of day for me. I've timed out twice just loading this thread and trying to reply (ironic!).

Hi hi gene,
well, took me another 25 minute trying to read your old link just to reflesh old issue..
hmm, gave up after hitting my good patience..

then, many hours later, now, it works and allow me to at least read old post.

not sure when it will hit again.
Re: Forum Issues/Slowness
We're aware of the problem and it is indeed affecting all users (some hours of the day are worse than others). Thanks all for your patience while it is being sorted out.
As a side note, though it has similar symptoms as earlier problems we have not yet confirmed the same root cause.

Would it help if we submitted a wireshark capture of a troublesome part of activity?Vincent Vermeulen wrote:We're aware of the problem and it is indeed affecting all users (some hours of the day are worse than others). Thanks all for your patience while it is being sorted out.

same issue here from romania.
i think that the problem is that too much users are trying to acces the forum in the same time.

This happens repeatedly from time to time...
Time to upgrade the server again!

Also noted trying to do a dist-update & upgrade the repo servers hang.

Same here..
Re: Forum Issues/Slowness
Fred did some work today on the forum server, optimizing parts of the database. It looks like this has solved the slowness.
For those users with problems doing upgrade or dist-upgrade, have you confirmed it is in fact the packages.linuxmint.com server that is the repository causing the problem? It is on a different server that the forum, so this is unrelated. Probably due to peak traffic to the server from the RC announcement. If your upgrade or dist-upgrade continues to have a slow download speed, consider switching your repositories to a mirror. Or use something like apt-fast instead of apt-get. I anybody needs help with that, suggest you post a new topic for that as this topic was concerning the forum slowness.
You can find lists of mirrors for the various default repositories here:
