Does the MATE desktop run on any other distributions?

Post by MakOwner » Thu Aug 06, 2015 2:02 am

Other than Mint?

I have been using Mint with a MATE desktop because I really like the MATE desktop - but with 17.2 I just can't take the wonky boot issues any more.
I have Dell desktops and Lenovo laptops and the boot process just keeps getting worse and worse with every release.
You can search on my posts/threads and see the issues I have and still have with a Lenovo engineering workstation class laptop with NVidiea/Intel video.
Dell issues are quite as bad, but having to chase the tool bar and screen 0 between random locations after every boot is almost as bad.

I just can't take it anymore -- is there any other option?

You could try Ubuntu MATE 15.4 - only gets 9 months support as it isnt an LTS release, but is based on much newer core so might help.

You could even jump over to Fedora-based distro Korora:
https://kororaproject.org/discover/mate
(this has only just been released and looks great)

Good luck ;-)
