Linux Mint on a Tablet

Post by Ozo »

I have an HP Stream 8 tablet with Windows 10 (came w/8,1) and I was doing some research regarding Linux with a tablet. It seams it is not simple to load a Linux OS to a tablet. However I did find that some folks are doing it with the HP Stream. Here is a link to the HP forums thread about it:

I would love to be able to just load Linux Mint to the tablet like I did to my desktop but it looks more difficult than that. I am a newbie here so it will be some time before I attempt it but thought some here might be interested.
There are numerous tablets with hardware supporting more than Android and the HP Stream has been out for at least two years. In fact it has been discontinued by HP. I think that is one reason why the Stream 7 is now available for about $50 and the Stream 8 for $85. Asus has VivoTab and Dell has Venu Pro to name a few.

Linux Mint on a Tablet

I think it would have to be FDA approved first.

Well, as long as you can break it in two.

I don't think tablets are well supported in Mint. But I have heard that Ubuntu and Fedora and probably others do support tablets.

Android is improving. On my Nexus 7 (Marshmallow) I have my favorite browser (Chrome) which improves the experience a lot. There are still many missing options however and a full os would be preferred.
If any one has loaded a Linux os to tablet with no issues please tell us about it. I am looking forward to seeing a production tablet with Linux pre-loaded.
