Don't tempt me...

Seriously, if there's enough interest I might try and create such a database. Assuming, of course, that I have time (which I seem to be running out of these days.)

I'm not sure if this qualifies as "just works", since at least at the time the Nvidia drivers available in the repository didn't support the 10XX cards, so I had to go get a newer driver. I haven't checked if the correct driver is available by default now though, so maybe this wouldn't be an issue anymore.

The other slight problem was the keyboard causing booting to take a really long time, but it's fixable.

Otherwise, everything has just worked, even keeping everything (kernel/xorg/etc) fully updated. The one thing I haven't tried using though is the wifi, because regardless of OS, wired ethernet always just seems to be better.

-edit-
It would seem that the inxi command doesn't "just work", since it apparently can't see my NVMe drive

-edit2-
The reason there isn't a 4k resolution reported despite having a 4k monitor in the part list, is because I have it scaled down to 1080p. Also, it was most definitely not worth what I paid for it - it does absolutely have better colors and detail, but even if I keep it at native 4k resolution it just isn't hugely noticeable unless I'm specifically looking for it and/or am comparing side-by-side with one of my other screens. Plus practically nothing actually supports the 4k resolution well and even if stuff did support it, there just isn't a whole lot of 4k content that I've seen available. I mean, it's nice, don't get me wrong; but it seems like all those glowing reviews/comments/etc about how awesome 4k is must have been from people upgrading straight from 720p.

Well 3 Ghz Intel Xenon Quad Core and 24 Gb of RAM sounds powerful to me.
Sure they are probably from 2009 or 2010 so quite old for today’s freaks :)

Acer-Aspire-One D250 (2009) safed from waste this summer (broken Win 7...) everything is working well. SSD and 2 GB RAM are from a defective HP Netbook.

Linux Mint 18 Sarah 32-bit / Kernel Linux 4.4.0-47-generic i686 / MATE 1.14.1

CPU: Intel Atom N270 @ 1.60GHz × 2 / RAM: 2.0 GB / SSD: 120 GB / Graphics: Intel Mobile 945GSE (Resolution: 1024x600)

The only limitations are the poor 1024x600 resolution

Hi, there are 3 machines with LM (stable) in our household, all second hand.

the one I use for my work is:

With this one I had the issue of
Erratic Keyboard and Touchpad (unsolved) viewtopic.php?f=49&t=91032
I have disabled the touchpad, using a mouse and so it is possible to work without trouble.

I am new to LM and I hope to have found a stable distro for productive work.

My old beast, made from scrounged and used parts. Total invested is probably around $100.
The old quad was beginning to feel kinda old till I bought a used 64GB SSD for $10 and that breathed new life into this old PC. If anyone has any doubts about getting an SSD I say do it as soon as you can, the speed increase is astonishing. Chrome used to take a good 20 seconds to open, now it takes maybe 3 seconds, other apps are similarly speeded up.
LM18 was the most troublesome for me since I started with LM12. For about a month I had wifi issues but an update fixed things and it has been good ever since.

I've been afraid to post anything here, because I figured as soon as I did, *something* would have to act up. So, barring any potential problems in the future, my system is working fine NOW. My hard drive hardly ever clatters, as it was something it used to do a lot of when I was using winxp. This was considered 'normal' behaviour, coming from the nice guy that made the computer for me for free from all his 'extra' parts he had around.

Every desktop I own and run Linux on was someone else's old discard that I upgraded with junk box parts.
Whats a new computer?
InkKnife wrote:The old quad was beginning to feel kinda old till I bought a used 64GB SSD for $10 and that breathed new life into this old PC. If anyone has any doubts about getting an SSD I say do it as soon as you can, the speed increase is astonishing.
With your new SSD did you have to purchase any special devices to make it work properly or was it just plug in and use as all of my computers are 6 to 8 years old.

I had some minor issues but managed to solve them and now LM 18 is my mainstream Linux Distro.

Paid $1.00 for this one and changed the processor and added ram and hard drive. :D

Do I have to declare that I do use LiveCode Community to create the programs I need, HamSphere to communicate with my other Hams friends ? And even, b4x stuff to develop to Android (using wine) :D

My hard drive hardly ever clatters, as it was something it used to do a lot of when I was using winxp. This was considered 'normal' behaviour, coming from the nice guy that made the computer for me for free from all his 'extra' parts he had around.
Hard drives do make noise, but it should never be described as "clatter." When I think of "clatter," I think of a knocking and hard drives should NEVER knock. If your HD starts knocking, immediately do an incremental backup and go find a new HD. A knocking or clattering HD is a failure waiting to happen.

Now, if YOUR definition of clattering is not knocking, then I guess an operating system like Windows could cause that. Though clattering sounds more hardware related than software related.

Remembers me on old speedy SCSI 10'000 or 15'000 drives. Amazing their sounds, especially before they broke down. SSD's will died in silent way.
