WOW! - It works, it really, really, works.

I've been waiting to use Linux until it could pass my simple usability test --- Install on older, low end hardware and configure to make full use of a high resolution monitor (1080p).

Mint 18.2 just passed the test.

It wasn't easy but I did succeed using xrandr and crt tools and creating .xprofile to make the configuration stick between boots.

Congratulations Linux Mint --- I hereby pronounce you ready for prime time use!

Welcome to Linux Mint, jqpabc123! I have been using Linux since before there was any such thing as 1080p (2002, to be exact), and it has certainly felt ready for prime time to me the whole time. But still, it's great that you got it working to your satisfaction!

Yep - - it sure does
:D
but, as always, there is the "law of diminishing returns".
:(
ie: you have to know the limitations, when getting these oldies working again:
- - you've unlikely to be able to watch YouTube, for example.
