a dropbox link -- which does use https -- also failed. are you restricting to a list of preferred sources ?

Only https links will be accepted, no http addresses.

Re: avatar rejected
this change violates a fundamental rule of programming: the board software
(1) changed MY DATA from http:// to https://, and
(2) told me the URL was invalid
the proper procedure for the message is to indicate avitars have to be https:// effective <date>
i have tried to supply a Dropbox link however the board software simply reverts me back to the url which it corrupted.

The site with his image doesn't like https; I don't think there's a problem with the forum software.karlchen wrote: ⤴Tue Feb 13, 2018 9:33 am Hi, Mike Acker.

As the owner of the site Mike Acker should know this.
Some strange things: Home page lastly revised in 2014, but copyrighted at 2015 and with content at least from 2017.

Re: avatar rejected
I don't have a cert for my "napfn.com" site. nothing there that needs protection.
the site is hosted by CoreComm; I could get a cert. if i called and asked.
i do use Dropbox and I can provide a link using https that way. i tried this but the forum software kept putting my old url back and attempting to reference it using https
i should be able to use this: IMAGE

Re: avatar rejected
The forum software accepted http links to user avatar files before the last update; it does no longer accept them now. Whether you simply call it a change or a problem, this depends on your perspective. But the forum behaviour has changed. This is why I had pointed to the relevant thread.

Re: avatar rejected
I am not amazed that this https address does not work. It returns more than just a pure little jpeg file. But the avatar should be a small image file only.

Re: avatar rejected
interesting. the file is stored in Dropbox:
when i did a download from the target all i got was the 4.4kb .jpg however: when the file is displayed using a web-browser it does show 1 BLOCK in AdBlock+ --- which means they are transmitting more than just the 1 file. probably should get the file using SFTP.

Re: avatar rejected
Hi "mike acker",
I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.
Why not just upload your avatar image to another image hosting website like "postimage.org" or "imgur.com", then use their "direct link" to put into this forum? OR, shrink and or scale the image to fit the dimensions of this forum and directly upload it.

Re: avatar rejected
We don't have that option on this forum. But as far as I know, you could post it as an attachment to a forum message, and then use it as a remote avatar.phd21 wrote: shrink and or scale the image to fit the dimensions of this forum and directly upload it.
