I'm excited for the release of 20.x as well. Never seen by own eyes yet, but excited anyway.

Mint 19 will be a big leap forward: a brand new modern code base (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS). Cool stuff!

Point zero releases aren't usually that inspiring owing to the effort required to rebuild on a new base. I'm excited for 19.1.

Us KDE users are less excited; no more dedicated KDE version. Still, despite the doubts I've read on here, I expect that KDE as a replacement for Xfce will be viable for years to come.

The 1x.3 releases are what I look forward to!

Because I want to see how Linux Mint keeps improving. I'm becoming a Mint evangelist with my friends and family.

GTK 3.22 is worth looking forward to...

It's pretty.

A lot of work for the dev team though porting both the Mint themes and the Mint maintained apps from GTK 3.18

I read this about 19 ... Mint 18.3 was full of new features. Don’t expect as many in Mint 19. We’ll focus mostly on the base, GTK, possibly theming as well and structural changes.

Where or what distro can we try to get a look at GTK 3.22 :?:

Here comes the party pooper . . . . me.

New releases are a necessary evil. Of course they are needed to move technology forward - without them we would all still be running Windows 3.1. But unfortunately they mean new bugs to work out and the inconvenience of getting things that were working just fine to work again. That is why I am always fashionably late to the new release party.

I use VirtualBox for that. At one point I counted 36 different OSes I had installed in VirtualBox, but I've been cleaning some of them out lately.

Ubuntu 17.10, Manjaro, probably any rolling release. 17.3 in a Virtual machine with GTK 3.22 added by PPA.

I should have said can be pretty - it appears to open doors to some nice options in GTK themeing.....so with the right theme. It will also facilitate Mint users using third party themes some of which are not built or updated anymore for GTK 3.18. And I'm sure there will be lots of happy Cinnamon users in other distros who will finally be able to use Mint X / Mint Y GTK themes once they are ported to GTK 3.22

What is the big deal about GTK 3.22 in Mint 19.x? I just read that GTK series 3 has lots of problems with compatablity (backwards that is), and I seem to see a lot of people saying wait til the 4.x series comes out for better stability and backward compatability. Also what about QT support in 19.x?

Had a play around with 18.04 tonight in Virtual box... yeah, ok, whatever... hate the desktop but that's by the by. Had to do some 'gentle coaxing' to get it updating but after that seamed pretty stable, it's not bad. Does not like 4.15 in VM, yup that killed it . So if anyone fancies a play don't update the Kernel. After an hour of messing around I'm yet to be excited.

I presume there will be no loss of QT support, especially as there are other KDE-centric distros using the Ubuntu repositories. :)

Compatibility is an issue. Themes and apps built for 3.18 only are broken in 3.22 and vice versa. That's why it's a good thing - 3.22 is what all of the GTK based rolling release distros currently use and is what most GTK theme makers currently target. I also don't envisage any loss of QT support.
