What would you use if Mint wasn't available? I will boot from next GRUB menu item.

As many have said, some *buntu variant or other Debian-based system. As long as I can customize it like Mint, I'll be good to go.

Another vote for Ubuntu Mate.

It's what I use on my second and machine. I've even installed the Mint themes on it and, although I've now changed it back, it's pretty easy to make Mate fairly Mint-like.

I already posted in this thread (pg 1), but that post is no longer accurate (and it's now edited). I'd go with Miyo Linux.

Apparently the developer of Void linux has disappeared from the project and as predicted Solus OS has gone very quiet.

Seems to me that it's best to stick to one of the big Distro's

Definitely. I've been using desktop Linux full time since 2006, and in that time I've lost my illusions about the small projects....

Only the big ones offer the long-term reliability you can trust. One should be reasonably sure that one's Linux will still be actively maintained next year.

Not sure where to put Slackware on the list as the last time i played with it was when they released 14.2 and something about it felt out of date even then , It works but i don't feel it is ageing very well.

Lubuntu or Zorin... both will eventually lead me to Ubuntu MATE because it's close to that minty green color (happens to be my favorite color... yes even before I knew Linux Mint).

This has been my thinking too for awhile now. The only exception the folks over at MX Linux, they have been there in one form or another since I started using Linux.

Probably Xubuntu, or perhaps Manjaro, if I even bothered.

I would probably fall back to Red Hat, then maybe Apple.

Something Debian based - that's for sure. And with Cinnamon DE.

Not sure what I'd use but I'd try pretty much anything before I'd be used by er, use Windows or other corporate product from similar ilk. Likely in order, the top candidates would be: Xubuntu, SolydX, Debian w/xfce.

Would certainly miss the friendly attitude, extra layers of ease and debugging Mint has contributed to my computing experience these past several years. I'm hopeful of many more years of minty goodness.
