The bugs might have been caused by extraneous apostrophes. In some file.

Suggest you read the help documentation for the update manager, in particular the part about regressions.

You wouldn't be running Mint 19 by any chance? Because that's a beta release and all betas are bug fests.

OK. I will not repeat the commonly known wisdom that errors happen and that you may have been unlucky enough to be hit by 2 of them.

It does not seem as if you have reported about either of the 2 bugs.
This raises the question: Why did you not report here and ask for help?
Are you sure software updates introduced 2 new bugs on your system at all?

Without having the faintest idea which software update you suspect to have introduced which bug, there is no way of giving a really meaningful answer. Sorry.

Regards,
Karl

Because in the last 6 months we were in the tail of the comet Rhea-M which caused all software to go nuts.

Love some of the answers.
I did notice, five post so far and joined recently.
I joined with Mint 6 and never saw any Bugs in updates that I can recall.

Bug's what? And what is an update's "why"?

It makes me feel smart to say "extraneous apostrophe".

It's a common condition. But think of the children who are allergic to forum necromancy, in particular of the off-topic kind! ;)
