Greetings and hello everyone.

I would suggest the name: Nirena :)

I think it is a suitable name for version 9, and I think it sounds like a Mint name as well.

How about dropping the names?

Mint 9 is definitive, and is much easier to remember the sequence than trying to sort through names that have no meaning. I think it's time to shelve this short "tradition" and start thinking about how Mint is presented to the larger community of computer users that have little or no experience with Mint or Linux. As Mint grows, we need to think outside of our group, and start seeing Mint as others see it.

On a similar subject, I was glad to see that "from freedom came elegance" was removed from default wallpaper for Mint 8. It's a non sequitur that has absolutely no meaning to regular people. I suppose there is some sort of message in that phrase to many members of the Linux community, but no one else has a clue. Remove it from the web pages. Again, we need to look at Mint as a product for regular computer users, and make it a familiar and welcoming experience. Drop the "insider" stuff.

Looks like all the good names are taken.

If I had to vote I'd choose Isabella or Ivana.

Has Cleopatra ever been used?
Ummm.... yeah,

It was used by an Egyptian queen, but that's not important right now.

And, for those that forgot, they are looking for a name that
starts with "i" and ends with "a"

Thats just silly. :(

And in the main post, there is no rules that it can't start with something else than i. Only make sure to make it end with an a.

@znote

It was just a light hearted little joke.

No need to get upset, I certainly didn't mean to be insulting, just humorous.

But perhaps you should read the first post in this thread again carefully.
Linux Mint 7 Gloria User Guide wrote:Codenames in Linux Mint are always female names ending with “a”. They follow the alphabetical order and the first letter of the codename corresponds to the index of the version number in the alphabet.

I'll start it off with: Isabella (runners up: Isadora, Ignacia, Iona, Iluminada)
It says quite clearly that the first letter
"corresponds to the index of the version number in the alphabet."

Linux Mint 8 = Helena
Linux Mint 7 = Gloria
Linux Mint 6 = Felicia
Linux Mint 5 = Elyssa
Linux Mint 4 = Daryna

This version will be "I-------a"

So lighten up

I would vote for Isabella, as that was my favorite grandma's name.
I had a dream that mint 9 was named Iclemina.

Eleanor
"It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "sun ray, shining light". Variant of Helen."

Sounds good to me if it comes from variant of Helen.
Helena 8
Eleanor 9
