Love 19 so far.

Post by MtnMan75 »

I've had one computer that I reluctantly kept on Win7 for a long time and others loaded with Mint 18. After testing out 19 for a while, I'm forever ditching windows as I noticed it was pushing through updates I repeatedly set to hide and not install and it appears their purpose was remote based information grabbing. No surprise. I've had to work out some little glitches in two setups I put Cinnamon on and they are working great (except they hose up .txt files one thumb drives, so I just changed those to LibreOffice extension files as they were merely notes and all is well). Will be setting up my daughter's new tower this weekend for her college work with Cinnamon on it, and am currently trying to work out on little problem with screen resolution on an old tower loaded in Xfce but this handles everything I need, it does it faster be it internet or running my printer or scanner and I think you guys are awesome. I'm sick of Microsoft tracking, Android tracking, etc... This is a way to skirt a lot of that and I hope you all keep up the great work. Thank you!

Great! Hope you're enjoying mint. Sometimes linux can take time to set up (though 19.0 seems easiest ever for me) mint seems to be robust once you have it in place and just gives me sense of control: no fear of viruses, no fear of unexpected updates, knowledge that if i want some little bit of software i can probably get it free from secure source; no adverts from the OS, and a great forum  :)
