Post by vonMos »

So, with 19.1 release does the LMDE3 get the Cinnamon 4.0 too? I hope so.

Doubt it very much, LMDE is Debian based and as such is a lot more restrictive that Ubuntu based Mint (eg no ppas allowed, which isn't such a bad thing IMO). You'll get even less new versions of software with LMDE.

In Linux, with its lack of backwards compatibility and stable APIs, you're always having to stike a balance between stability and getting new software. Debian is pretty far to the stability side of this.

Yes, Cinnamon 4.0 will ship to LMDE 3: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3644#comment-145731

Likely LMDE 3 will get the improvements from the current development cycle a little bit ahead of the Linux Mint 19.1 release.
