AMD Radeon 6770 Fan Control OPEN SOURCE

Post by alisson3000br »

Hi guys, I hgot this old pc this week which is working nice with linux, I want to donate it but there is a problem that is the annoying fan noise, no one would like it this way, some years ago I found an easy article that explain exactly how to create a file and make it run like a program so I placed it on the startup files and it worked well on other pc but only with proprietary graphics. now this pc the proprietary graphics is bad, so has to stay with open source, is there a way to solve this or its impossible?

This bit from the inxi output got my attention: "Kernel: 4.20.0-042000-generic"

Don't use 19.1 myself but it comes with a 4.15 series kernel, you may have gone a kernel update or two too far. Is that even a supported kernel in Mint? Try rolling it back to a 4.15 series one and reboot, search "ubuntu reboot from older kernel" if you don't know how to do this.

New kernels are put out there largely for hardware support reasons. That almost always affects machines much newer than yours, and with Linux problems with old hardware don't tend to get fixed in newer kernels often. Fortunately your system isn't that old, but any Mint supported LTS kernel will get all the security updates. The newest software, incl. the kernel, isn't usually necessary and may not be desirable.
