Because, from the point of view of a guy who just wants to get his work done, it's the best and most painless operating system I've used.

The trick is simple!
Use Mint as you used Windows.
1) Browse the internet, as usual.
2) Send and receive emails, as usual.
3) Listen to music, as usual.
4) Watch youtube, as usual.
5) Watch Netflix, HBO etc, as usual.
Force yourself to do the everyday stuff you used to do in Windows.
And be happy about how smooth your pc now runs.
And added privacy as well.
The rest will come later as needed.

Re: Why do newcomers stay with Mint?
I found LM about 2 years ago after frustration with windows 10 changing my settings or creating problems and issues at every update and there was the worrying about virus issues all the time, so after trying every Linux OS I could eventually settled on the nicest looking Linux version which was LM cinnamon edition. I still keep trying other different live versions of Linux but Mint just works so well, and it is all FREE the OS and software for any job I might have and for someone on a pension with limited money it really helps the tech addiction .......
