Another Design Discussion: Properties and Media Files

Post by Portreve »

There are other distros (Ubuntu, for example) which, at the desktop level, include an appropriate tab in the File Properties dialog box which shows relevant metadata for a given media file. For example, if it's a FLAC/OGG/MP3/etc., it will show the song title, album, artist, track number, total tracks, etc.

Is there any possibility a future release of Cinnamon might include this?

Are there any other LM users who might like to see this?

Interesting, but not really what I had in mind. Thanks, though!

Well, I suppose that works, too.

How come this isn't a part of the base LM install?

I wish it would also show album art. However, it does work, so thank you very much!

I'd like to see a files meta data in its properties tab.

I guess the reason for no graphics is that properties GUI already presents a thumbnail in the Basics tab and I don't think the mediainfo library it uses in the background supports extracting album-art.

Why isn't is included by default? I guess because it's a third party extension and maybe the dev team have never come across it. It's open-source thought so I guess the dev team could fork it to have it as a default extension in Nemo if they were asked to.

Note - the same PPA offers versions of the extension for MATE / caja as-well.

Nemo-mediainfo-tab is indeed a nice addition. Thanks for pointing it out! It also gives resolution and compression info for photos as well.

I think this should definitely be pre-installed unless there is some compelling reason not to do so. It improves Mint in an obvious way by just installing one package.

Totally agree. Aesthetics aside, it is a definite improvement over how the OOB base install presents.
