Linux Mint Appreciation Thread. Because it is the best OS on the planet!

Post by ShadowOfHarbringer »

Hello all,

I heard Linux Mint Devs are depressed. Don't be depressed guys, you are geniuses! Because Linux Mint is the best operating system on the planet!

I use Linux Mint on at least 5 computers, it is the most intuitive, the most usable and stable operating system [stability like most Linuxes]. I actually taught my aunt and her young son (Windows users before) to use it, they "got it" in no time.

I use Mint for gaming and for work, for almost everything (well, except no-gui headless servers) !

Seriously, Linux Mint devs just totally rock. Cheer up.

Linux Mint: after all these years, it's still the best desktop Linux distribution. And indeed, perhaps even the best OS there is.

Stable, reliable, secure, easy, long term supported. At no cost. What's more to wish for? 8)

Yeah; there really isn't much else to wish for.

I love Linux Mint! I've switched my main desktop machine to using it and I'd like to switch my partner's laptop to use it as I'm getting sick of her complaining about Windows 10.

Context is all, my good sir. What's more to wish for in an OS?

I was attempting to express the idea, dear sir, that with Linux Mint in existence, there wasn't much else in life to wish for.

Ok, ok, seriously? You want to hear my personal wishlist?

I have some Cinnamon and/or Nemo performance concerns. From what I'm hearing about the next release, I think this may cease to be an issue.

I like how Nemo is very Mac OS/Mac OS X Finder-like. However, when you're in list view and you're expanding the triangles to expose lower levels of filesystem structure, closing a parent flushes all previous sub-level expansions, and that's kind of annoying.

I wish there existed a utility like Automator in Mac OS X because it's a very powerful tool and, as executed by Apple, it is extremely user-friendly.

In another thread, I did a mock up of how I'd like to see media files show their meta-data-sourced information (album art, track data, etc.) and I was shown some kind of extension one could add to give you access to that data (minus album art) and I think it should be a default part of LM.

I find Linux Mint to be by far the best piece of software that I have ever used. I have tried many other OS's before(Including Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, Fedora, Haiku OS, ReactOS, and macOS), however, I have not enjoyed using any one of those as much as I have enjoyed Linux Mint.

I think that the Mint developers have created what is by far, the best balance of stable, up-to-date, classic UI, modern aesthetics of any modern distro out of the box to date.

I encourage the Mint developers to keep up the good work. We all appreciate what you do!

I think it was "Linux Mint developers are REPRESSED".

One thing I would suggest, create a partition a ~28G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home.
When the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.

I felt so sorry for Clem when I read his latest blog that I went and became a patron, not a lot but a regular contribution each month - better than the erratic contributions that I've done in the past (when I remember).

The mint devs work for us and they need to earn a living.

I can't imagine my computer life without mint, it would be a whole lot worse.

When I came home with stuffed screen, After I'd fixed it. SWMBO tells me that she was worried that I might steal her lappy. She is very much a technophobe and never did like w10 on her machine, it spent more time on the shelf than anywhere else. I set her up with mint at the beginning of this year, now it lives right next to her. All she does is watch movies on it.

That would certainly be nice and would make the decision to invest the time easier, but I feel I should clarify that at least I'm not seeing a cent from your donations or from any other income Linux Mint generates. That's Clem's business venture.

Just wanted to say your improvements to the various Mint tools are nice and I appreciate the work that you do. It would be nice if you got some compensation for your efforts though.

I wish I had more time to muck with it, and understand things ...

strangely I just discovered Flowblade a few days ago (as if it was already installed ???!)
all these things I don't know about // such a vast mofo

bottom like, it's a great EDA platform for me ...
I get my work done = things flow well

I tend to agree. I've moved on since, but Linux Mint 18.2 KDE was the first linux OS to install and run cleanly on my equipment, except for a self-built Gentoo KDE from a tarball many years ago. All attempts to install other linux distros resulted in numerous issues over the years. LM was instrumental in getting me off Windwoes permanently.
