According to this Wikipedia entry Mint 12 was released in November 2011 (Gnome), February 2012 (KDE) and March 2012 (LXDE). Mint 1.0 (Ada), with KDE, is listed as having been released on 27 August 2006. I'd be interested to know where you got the 2004 from!

My bad.! My apologies.
I wrongly thought that all LM releases follow exactly after Ubuntu releases, which were: .......
LM 19 = 2018 = Ubuntu 18.04
LM 18 = 2016 = Ubuntu 16.04
LM 17 = 2014 = Ubuntu 14.04
LM 16 = 2012 = Ubuntu 12.04
LM 15 = 2010 = Ubuntu 10.04 ...
LM 12 = 2004 = Ubuntu 4.04.
That's because I only started using LM in early 2016 with version LM 17.x = not aware that the 1st release of LM was LM 1.0 in 2006.
My 1st foray into Linux as an average home-user was the Live Ubuntu 8.04 CD in 2008 which I quickly gave up because of its very un-userfriendliness = required a tech-geek to use it. I remained on the much more user-friendly Win XP, then Win 7 until the Win 10 GWX KB3035583 debacle in early 2016.
Re: TechNewsWorld: Unsubstatiated, unfair, snide remarks about LM 19
That explains it! An easy mistake; no need to apologize but thanks anyway. A lot of the earlier releases (i.e. before Mint 17) were not LTS editions; the first one was Mint 5 according to the Wikipedia entry.michael louwe wrote: ⤴Sun May 12, 2019 3:23 pm LM 19 = 2018 = Ubuntu 18.04

Re: TechNewsWorld: Unsubstatiated, unfair, snide remarks about LM 19
Easy mistake indeed. I originally made the opposite mistake, not having realized that Mint point releases were no longer following Ubuntu's non-LTS releases. Maybe when they changed the model they should have put the LTS in the name like Ubuntu does.

2. These are a bunch of safe speed tweaks for Mint 19.1 that I've published on my website:

Most of the article is quite tame. I'm sure we've all seen worse. I myself hit a hardware problem (ethernet chip needed r8168, not r8169) with 19.1, but I just fixed it, no biggee. Perhaps he could have done the same.In that article, Jack Germain is supposed to be talking about a distro based on Linux Mint, but at the end he states, "Still, Feren OS is a nice alternative to Linux Mint, which has gotten sluggish and slow since the version 19.1 release."
In yet another article about a different distro, he takes yet another swipe at LM 19.1 with, "The next step is to install it on my primary desktop computer in place of the troublesome Linux Mint."
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

Oh my, I've done "dirty installs" from 14 up to 18.3, but have a clean install of 19.1 on another computer too.catweazel wrote: ⤴Sat May 11, 2019 4:31 amMore likely he upgraded without doing a clean install. There is no evidence to suggest his current machines are in need of replacement.

Personally, I immediately had a desire to check the new OS, as it was with Sparky, in which I am extremely satisfied and which I constantly use.
