WiFi is not working in Linux Mint 19.1

Post by JustLinuxer »

Hi everyone. I'm sorry for my english). Just installed Linux Mint 19.1 and really enjoying it, but my wifi network won't show up in available networks. I've tried solve that problem using that link viewtopic.php?t=289184 but it didn't help me.
Here is detailed information about my network.

Code: Select all

  *-network
       description: Ethernet interface
product: RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller
       vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:07:00.0
       logical name: enp7s0
       version: 05
       serial: 74:86:7a:0b:a6:43
       size: 100Mbit/s
       capacity: 100Mbit/s
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix vpd bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation
       configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3LK-NAPI duplex=full firmware=rtl_nic/rtl8105e-1.fw ip=192.168.0.5 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes port=MII speed=100Mbit/s
       resources: irq:16 ioport:2000(size=256) memory:c1404000-c1404fff memory:c1400000-c1403fff
  *-network UNCLAIMED
       description: Network controller
       product: BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
       vendor: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:08:00.0
       version: 01
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:c1500000-c1507fff
Now I have no idea how I can solve that.

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, when I started out with Linux Mint.
I solved it by using a cabled connection and downloaded the driver.
On the other laptop I'm using, I just reinstalled Linux Mint. I think I checked the box for installing 3rd party drivers during installing Mint.
Hope this helps.

Run this command in Terminal (Ctrl, Alt & T), then Reboot pc:

Code: Select all

 sudo apt install bcmwl-kernel-source
If that doesn't work, run this, then Reboot:

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source && sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer

On my current system 2011 MBP) there is no OOB support for my onboard wireless. I have to use an Ethernet cable to do the initial installation, and thereafter enable the Broadcom driver in the driver-handling control panel.
