success on HP mini 210 w/xfce 19.1-64

Post by Tomgin5 » Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:37 pm

I picked up a pretty little HP mini 210-2100 with a single core n455 atom processor. it cost $15. The battery is dead and it had no charger. It ran with a charger that the party had. I picked up a 120 GB SSD for for $19 retail. and dropped in 2 GB of ddr3 ram that I had to replace the 1gb it had. It Booted to an XFCE 19.1-64 live flash drive I had. It installed and updated fine although the battery said it was charging after 6 hours it was still 0%. The old owner said the camera was dead but it works fine. The battery is on the way. The new charger was $7.99 (postage included.

I love the case that is red anodized aluminum. No plastic with a silver anodized keyboard.

Good to know this you have salvaged it. How is the response after installing the required applications?
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

Nice! :)

I advise to disable all visual effects in Xfce:

I have not done the visual effects thing on the XFCE yet. Everything seems to be running very well. Surprisingly snappy. I have not tried live video downloads yet but I have slower dual core machines running as well. It is a little hesitant on some of the larger apps but once running they are quite good. No gamer and neither is the lady I am setting it up for. :D

Surprise Surprise! The single core atom does pretty good with live action video from offline and playing a DVD on a Lenovo USB DVD burner/player. 8)

Another surprise. The N455 processor addresses DDR3 RAM but only up to the 2GB I originally went too from 1 GB. It will not boot to DDR3 4 GB sticks. As it is:
