Tina is the TOP news item in the final issue of Linux Journal

Post by mediclaser » Thu Aug 08, 2019 4:31 pm

Linux Journal Ceases Publication

...And Linux Mint 19.2 is the top-most article in its last breaking news section.

Did you guys notice that? https://www.linuxjournal.com/news
If you're looking for a greener Linux pasture, you won't find any that is greener than Linux Mint. ;)

It is sad, because that is my main source of Linux news. If you check the home page, it says:
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM LINUX JOURNAL, LLC:
On August 7, 2019, Linux Journal shut its doors for good. All staff were laid off and the company is left with no operating funds to continue in any capacity. The website will continue to stay up for the next few weeks, hopefully longer for archival purposes if we can make it happen.

See this article that blames Linux users as tightwads.

I don't think that Linux users are any more "tight" than Windwoes Users, or Mac Users, our problem lies in the small market share that Linux occupies. A business that makes (no real numbers here, so don't shoot me) a million dollars a day isn't going to miss a few dollars lost to some cheapskate who would rather "steal" good software than purchase it. If, OTOH, that company is only making 100 dollars a day even one dollar a day lost is a major issue.
Kernel: 4.15.0-46-generic x86_64 bits
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.8.9
Distro: Linux Mint 19 Tara

Laptop HP-ProBook-470-G2 8Gb RAM SSD
Server AMD Phenom 9650 - GEForce 9400GT 6Gb RAM
+ three other Mint machines
Out of my mind - please leave a message

This is an Issue that I'm for-ever Stating the Bleeding Obvious:
- - that Linux Users Do Need to Remove their wallet / purse & extract some $$$ for Linux products
simply put, their Linux System won't survive, in an commercial sense, otherwise.

NB: that statement by lsemmens is right - - once any Windows User has made their Initial Purchase,
they often don't buy anything else - - which is why they do pay so much, up front.
:(

But - - it's really nice, that they gave the Linux Mint 19.2 as the top-most article in its last breaking news section.

When I have some extra money to spend, I have supported various libre software products. It's not often, but it does happen.

The libre ecosystem is not small, in fact. However, it does need to at some point recognize there is some utility value in marketing and getting the public to recognize, just as Apple did back in the 2000s, that there is another game in town. Moreover, the community needs to help educate the greater public on the legitimacy of much of Richard Stallmann's core values as embodied in the GPL.

We have to change minds, otherwise we will continue to be a sidelined, irrelevant platform no matter how useful we may actually be.
I'm so down wit' dat', yo, dass ich unter dem Beton bin.

Presently rocking LinuxMint 19.2 Cinnamon.

Remember to mark your fixed problem [SOLVED].

All in all, you're just another brick in the wall.

.
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments ... ade_a_ftp/ = Linux Journal has been archived.

https://www.linuxjournal.com/content/wh ... -community -
What Linux Journal's Resurrection Taught Me about the FOSS Community - by Kyle Rankin on April 3, 2019 = a good read into an anecdotal history of GNU/Linux from the early 1990s to 2019.
....... The link will disappear in a few weeks' time.

Looks like they opened up the back issues archive for PDF/EPUB/MOBI files.

Also, the HTML archive has a link for the 2018 ISO.
