Because they're in the diminutive form. Done!
I would never have known that even 52 years ago when learning languages at school, but the concept of separating labels from their referents has fascinated me since reading a science fiction story actually titled "Labels and Referents" or something like that. (For example it means that if one convinces the world that the colour red should really be called "black" then the label is changed without altering the referent, and red becomes black.)

It's odd how a flippant and provocative comment of mine has turned into a discussion far more interesting than Linux.

PS If diminutise doesn't exist - well - it does now!

PPS I studied Latin for 3 three years - never got the hang of it. Or any foreign language. Or computers. Or life.
But my dear Jon you are by your admission diminutive.

Does that mean black is the new red?

Patricia? Patrizia..?

...not necessarily very inventive. Abbreviations wear out faster than the original.

I'll see her next Thursday. I will ask her about the name.

Quote from H2G2: "One Thursday, a girl sitting on her own in a small café in Rickmansworth suddenly realised what it was ..... "

Also remember there are 5 books in the Hitch Hiker's trilogy.

There is a 6th one written by someone else. I got a 1/4 way through it and gave up. It just wasn't Douglas Adams.

IMO, Eoin Colfer did a pretty good job on the 6th book. Nevertheless, I had to overcome some internal resistance too: it is not Douglas Adams after all. But the further you get in, the better it gets, and you almost forget that it is NOT DNA

Maybe off the thread a little talking about Douglas Adams but being a cyclist this one -
"...nearly forcing him into the path of a cyclist who cursed and swore at him from the moral high-ground that cyclists alone seem able to inhabit."

And this seems to be the way things are made these days -
"....black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, [and] a little black light lights up black..."

Douglas' books are a valuable source for one-liners. And silly names
Gag Halfrunt, Magicthighs, Froomfondle, the Grabulons

I am working on a specialised keyboard, and since it's black .... I named it Hot Black Desiato. The second keyboard Disaster Area.
So your second quote was immediately recognised,
and although I ride a bike too  , with your first quote I have trouble to place it ... *)

H2G2 quote of the day:
Ford Prefect: "Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so"

-------

On topic: Tisha is a valid first name. Asked my doctor today about it, and the source is: her mum :)
Another thing that speaks for her: she is familiar with H2G2

*) edit: is the quote from Dirk Gently ?

Ever tried to find the push-button ON switch on some desktop computers, especially if they are under the desk? A black button on a black fascia that lights up black. Such a "real-life" quote.

Yes and just as good. Another classic Douglas Adams story.

Back on the thread -
Tavia - abbreviation of Octavia
Tira - meaning of the name Tira is Arrow.
Torra meaning of the name Torra is From the castle.
Torri - derived from Victoria
Tyra - meaning of the name Tyra is Untamed

Much ado about something not very consequential, or is it?
A rose by any other name,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_rose_by ... l_as_sweet

Why not follow noaa's decision to use both female and male names for tropical storms?
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames_history.shtml

Hundres of names to pick from, for example:
https://www.babynames.com/
Many other sites, just google 'names', male, female or unisex.
How about Trianna or Tristana? Just to make it little more distinct from Tina.
