When will this forum site get a new modern design?

Post by Dipendra Khanal »

I'm new to linux form W10. I'm using LM since LM 19 'Cinnamon'. The LM community site (community.linuxmint.com) has been changed to modern Layout with new LM logo. which I find super easy and very glad to see modern UI. Now my Question is when this forum or even LM home page will be changed into Modern layout and new logo ??

I hope they don't change this forum - I mostly don't even use Linux Mint but the forums for the distros I do use the most are too ugly and unwieldy to bother with.

I agree,
I do not want this forum format to change.

It is exceptionally easy to use, and beats the socks off of the so called "Fancy GUIs" that I have seen thrown in our faces.

my home forum just experienced the modern facelift in spite of the moderators and users complaining vociferously "NO, we don't want it".... it is clutzy and it lost all of the nice little features that we have incorporated over the last 10 years.....

the users liked it the way it was, but alas, it is no more now.
It is now running on Xenforo which has caused us to loose a lot of users that used to be with us regularly.

If you even care about such, take a look..... the screen format has two options only, "Light" and "Dark" when we loved our old, staid Classic Yellow background which had the menu laid out across the top in a Command Bar, that is gone now .... sigh.... :(

I couldn't care less as long as it remains legible.

I Guess I'm one of those that doesn't see the need for change. It's fine the way it is. Not everything needs to be newer all the time..

Modern Designs are rather anorexic. I assume that a flat Icon is much more CO2 neutral than one of this fat and three-dimensional-touched icons. This also applies to light gray fonts, preferably Roboto Thin --- No waste of black!

I see the same thing in illustrations: I like it baroque and rich, craft in pure culture. Not possible! 25 years ago - > too much storage space! ... today somehow different suspicious --- Luxury and so on... as I said in this Forums:

If it ain't Broke
DON"T FIX IT!!

I like it as it is, and it works well. Who needs all the bells and whistles which generally use up bandwidth, take forever to load, and provide nothing in the process.

I'll add my vote for keeping what we have--change for the sake of change is a waste!

I've looked at aformentioned community.linuxmint.com - one word answer - AWFUL.

I vote NO CHANGE! (Apart from updating the logo, I think the current one is better though). This forum is great as-is.

I think it would be good to update the looks a bit, to reflect the new logo. Maybe replace the font of the letters next to it, too. That's about all that I think needs doing.

Judge not the mint forum by the appearance of it's web pages but by its contents.
Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.

I personally hate it when there is change only "for the sake of change"...email for example, always changing the looks of the login page as well as the email format and having to re-learn how to use it all over again with the new "features" etc...they are constantly changing things for the newest, OOOOOH, SHINEY...I am not a believer in "re-inventing the wheel" when the old one is working just fine...Too many techs with WAAAAAY too much time on their hands trying to justify their employment and/or existence...DAMIEN

I hope they don't. There's something just so nice and simple about a classic forum design you just can't beat. It's especially nice when you compare it to certain forums which have to do a boatload of client-side rendering every time you decide to switch boards or topics.

Maybe easier way to mark threads as SOLVED would be a nice start.

And automatic thread locking after n days.

They have that on ubuntuforums.org and still very few people use it. All the original poster has to do is click the Thread options menu near the top of the page and select mark topic as solved

I too, thought this should be implemented, and did so on my motorcycle forum..

the result was a lot of vehement talk that we had made the forum "unfriendly"...
but, the result was, that when someone had a problem, they HAD to START a new TOPIC of their own...

and this resulted in what we needed... the OP was the guy who had the problem,
not someone who had tagged onto an "almost similar" thread that is 12 years old.

We started out with 72 hours from the Last Active Post, and left it that way.

Sigh, we lost that feature when VerticalScope decided to just up and change our software from VBulletin over to Xenforo.... we now have a one can of Chicken Noodle Soup is all you get, for every one of their forums, and that is nearly a 1000 of them.
