I presume you mean - "Is it possible to change the format of a video from a dvd" i.e. copying it off the DVD and then converting it?
I use Mobile Media Converter to do media conversion, especially mp4 to mp3 for use on a USB stick in a car or on the computer. However it converts a range of video formats to other formats.

The format you'll want to convert your video files to to will depend on the BR player, you';ll need to consult the player's manual.

Not e that .avi, .mp4, .mpv are NOT video formats, they're just containers that can have more than one video/audio format. For a BR player playing video data files it's probably x264/AVC that's supported. Or it may be a mattter of you trying to play AVC video but the format level isn't supported by the BR player.
