What is after Linux Mint 20?

Post by JesseRBassett »

Hello,
I just have a quick question-now that Ubuntu is up to Ubuntu 20.10, will Linux Mint follow suit or will the operating system just stick with Linux Mint 20? Just curious to see what others think....
Sincerely,
Jesse B.

It's a frequently asked question on here, Mint stays with LTS releases so the next well be 20.1 with updates to the 20.04 base, just like Ubuntu gets 20.04.1 and so on.

You can see a decent snapshot of the version numbering and how they equate to ubuntu releases on the Linux Mint homepage downloads section.

It'll be Mint 20.1 after 20. The move to Mint 20.1 will likely be kinda like the move from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 20.10, eg. a similar kernel default shipped probably, but not exactly. 20.1 (and .2. and .3) will be LTS, Ubuntu 20.10 won't.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to manually upgrade linuxmint 20 to the 20.10 servers?

That's not the case.

Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla has other Ubuntu repo's; the Ubuntu repo's for the Mint 20 series (namely those of Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa) will remain the same throughout the entire series (20, 20.1, 20.2, 20.3). The short-lived HWE kernels will come from those Focal repo's as well.

There is, because you can do anything you want with (and to) your Linux. But don't even think about it: it's a sure way to bork your system beyond repair. A Frankenstein system like that won't make you happy.
