Name your must have apps which are not available in default repos
Hi,
If you ask me the only 2 apps that I use regularly & which I cant find in the default repos are (1) Veracrypt & (2) MEGAsync clent.
Those are the only 2 apps that I download from their official page.
What about you ?

Yeah, the default repos are very good IMO. The only app I can find installed on my system that is not in the default repos is Bitnami. That should probably not be in the default repos and I don't need it, but I leave it around.
They do a good job on the repos. I am surprised though that most of the apps in Software Manager do not have any reviews at all.

Mobile Media Converter (MMC) - converts videos to audio, video to different formats, audio to different formats. Very easy to use i.e. drag a file and click the convert box.
I would put Dukto there too as it is mentioned in the repository but not in it, just a link to it. A brilliant little bit of software. Bring it up on two computers on the same router and drag and drop files from one to the other. Each computer can see the other but not take, only receive what is given. Drag & Drop and works on everything, Andriod, Linux, Mac, Windows.

Epic Browser and SPWare Iron Browser
The first one is not available for linux but it is one of the best and most private browsers ever. My smartphone that runs Epic is more private than my desktop.
SRWare Iron is actually a semi ungoogled chrome/chromium and it is available for linux but not in the repositories. It is a very decent browser but nowhere so private as Epic.

A real "must" for me is mp3gain which allows the gain of mp3 files to be changed without re-encoding; it is very fast and unlike, for example audacity no extra encoding is necessary.
Used less now that I did in the past as I now use flac more.

For remote desktop I used to use Teamviewer until they started being a pain about trying to get people to pay and I switched to AnyDesk which works great, better in fact than TeamViewer. I use it both with Windows and Linux.
Please do not use animated GIFs in avatars because many of us find them distracting and obnoxious. Thank you.

Kodi media center comes to mind first as something of general interest. I probably use it every day. I use their PPA and flatpak (version control) There are some others I use on my 'media' and home devices like wireshark. . I use a number of other programs that are not in ubuntu but these are not of general concern unless you run a science lab or have a lot of data to store. For those I default to Arch (Manjaro) and MX linux for dedicated data crunching and instrument machine control both for what programs are available and how the OS updates work.
comadore, pcDOS, hpux, solaris, vms-vax ....blah blah blah..
