Linux mint Ulyssa dual boot Win 10 keeps breaking

Post by d0rkmatt3r »

so im dual booting ulyssa along side windows 10 on 2 machines and they both keep breaking.
First sign of trouble is the network manager disappears and cant be found, which leads me to attempt a reboot and thats when i notice that the GRUB menu no longer says "linux Mint 20.1..." but now says "Ubuntu" and after selecting that hangs up on the DELL screen.
I've reinstalled 3 times now between the two machines and it just happens again.

Desktop is a dell optiplex 64bit, not to sure on the model or other specs
2nd machine is a Dell inspirion 7000 2in1.

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated. if more info is needed( which im sure it is) just let me know and ill do the best i can to provide it.
Thanks in advance

Have you turned off auto updates in win, and does it break after booting win?

Another thing to check is if your BIOS has a Secure Mode feature. Make sure it is off. Secure mode generally means "This computer is secure from booting anything other than Windows."

And as AndyMH has intimated, yes, Windows will break GRUB after reboots and updates. Microsoft is a jealous god.
