You seem to be talking about defragmentation when I'm obviously referencing what you said about programs.

Nope...im talking about that e4defrag "tool" that already exists installed in linux based systems that is used for defrag purposes, NOT the act of defragmentation, just as i mentioned that in Windows, they are NOT known as defrag "tools" as in linux but are called "software programs" that perform that function, as well as in the case of Windows, it is automated by default...DAMIEN

Even 6 Firefox OR Chrome tabs open on a 4GB RAM Pentium will probably have two cores running at almost 75%.

If you opened a 7th tab, and I found out - I would tell you to get another computer tech, because my hourly rate is about to go up by 25% every time you call me out.

I got rid of a lot of ridiculous customers like that - and kept the ones who listened. I'm still looking after some of the good ones almost 15 years after I retired . .

germeten wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 8:30 pmA tech support person migrated me to Linux Mint over a year ago. Initially I was satisfied, even happy. But since then, my productivity has declined sharply. The software seems to be perpetually updating or defragging, using up resources and locking up activity until it's finished, usually for hours, sometimes for days.
There is a claim you are a "professional" yet everything shows a lack of knowledge, especially as the claimed faults are those of Windows types, not Linux. Linux does not do that.

I had the impression that "professionals" had some money to spare / spend? Does your country, not given anywhere, have recycling shops? This would be a place to get cheap items, possibly a complete computer so you could have two running. OK, that means 4 screens (if you are a "professional") but surely you have a big enough desk.
I had ad-blockers installed but now ads get through and increase time for pages to load.
How? Which ad blocker? You haven't said. They never do on any of my computers.
I'm prompted that my computer negatively effects Zoom meetings that I try to participate in.
That will be the way you are using it, not the computer's fault.
I was told I have too many tabs open which is surely true, but many professional people are visual and use tabs as
sight bookmarks and need them at hand. Our behaviour is unlikely to change because we have work to do and don't think
like programmers.
The thinking of programmers has nothing to do with it, it is your thinking that is lacking. If you are poor, think as if you are poor.
It would be a big help if Firefox coders would write scripts to only open active tabs and not ALL tabs.
You are poor so work round it. Copy the link to Text Editor and close the tab. Only open that tab when needed. You can't see it if looking at a different tab so there's no loss there.
I can't afford a faster computer right now. Anyway the trouble seems to be software related.
No, the trouble is lack of computer literacy. A faster computer won't make any difference. Everything points to a lack of computer skills.
You both get my vote!! It sounds as though said user is unwilling to take some responsibility for their actions and blame said tools when said tool, if used correctly will achieve much more than said user is capable of. FWIW I have one machine that was running XP when it was the new OS on the block and it happily runs Cinnamon and I often open multiple tabs at once in FF. My main frequently accessed book marks are set up using Group Speed Dial so I don;'t need to open a million tabs when I first load FF. Works fine! The only ad blocker that I run is uBlock origin and rarely do I see ads.

motoryzen,

I really do not want to shatter any illusions you may have, but if you ever thought for 2 seconds that Kadaitcha Man and i were going to do a showdown, gunfight, battle, at the "O.K. Corral," you would be sadly mistaken.

I have respect for what he brings to the table here in the forums and i believe he has a likewise respect for what i bring and what i know.
This is something that younger generations do not have a concept of, (mutual respect).

Save your popcorn and tonic for those that are not of a mature mentality that specialise in locking horns and doing battle and pee-ing on each other.

You will not get that from Kadaitcha Man or myself.

I think we both pride ourselves on the fact that we can even disagree on almost any topic, yet never are we disagreeable with each other.

We both graduated many, many, years ago from, "sandbox", "recess", "Playground", "High school" and "University" and no longer have excessive egos that need stroking.

We call this "Maturity" and i realise this is a quality that is lost among the younger generations, "mores the pity."

He and I, discuss differences, we do not go to war.

Much to learn, you have, Young padawan...DAMIEN

I'll assumedly not count as a recognised, credible source, but please note that, yes, really, this ...
DAMIEN1307 wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:23 pm That is a "tool" to be actuated by a terminal command code only, NOT a program Per se.
... is a painful and severe facepalm. Especially the "actuated" part but more generally; both e4defrag and e.g. Firefox are "programs". At most it could be said that "a tool" is a specific kind of program; any other definition of "program" that you seemingly use is something you have made up.
