Just heard of 'le9'...good fit for Mint?

Post by darkstrike »

Hi all - was just looking up Linux news which I do every once and awhile and learned about 'le9' - seems to make a drastic difference in memory usage on lower-power computer. Sounds like it would be a great fit for Mint! :)

Have the devs ever thought about integrating it into Mint at some point? Looks like somebody has already done a test image on Mint 20.2 with it!

It'll most likely end up in Mint if and when it's integrated into the Ubuntu kernels used by Mint (except LMDE).

That link says it's production ready but they all say that   .

Mint is not particularly aimed at ancent computer support. There are far better distros for that, like Antix, which doesn't use systemd.

True, but it's not really just an 'ancient computer' thing, it's a 'better use of RAM' thing. So I think it would work in any distro. I mean, If they can do what I usually do on 8GB of RAM for 2GB of RAM, just think what somebody could with it and having 64GB of RAM installed!!! :)

I'm aware of AntiX - I run it's fancier brother MX Linux on my low-spec HP Stream 13 laptop (1.6-GHz Intel Celeron N3050 dual-core CPU, 2GB soldered RAM, 32GB eMMC SSD, 256GB MicroSD card) and it's surprisingly usable even then.

It may work in any distro but until it's in the Ubuntu kernel series you aren't going to see it in Mint. All Ubuntu based distros work like this.
