elephants in the room

Post by all41 »

Linux users are raising elephants
Doh--click-bait but a search for raising elephants reveals more.
If you get locked-up try raising elephants before doing a dangerous hard power-down.
Press and continue to hold the alt key while entering the following key sequence:
prtscrn r e i s u b
to reboot
or
r e i s u o to poweroff

just remember:
raising elephants is so uttely boring

I've got my own mnemonic for reboot....

Reboot Even If System Utterly Broken (or insert your favourite memorable B word - B**gered, B**loxed etc)

My memory is so lousy, I can't even remember mnemonics. I just put them on a label stuck by the touchpad on my laptop.

I love that phrase, and I will be able to memorize it, I hope.
I have to use Sticky Notes for things like that.

For some reason, while I was making a Ventoy flash drive, I rebooted and left it in the USB slot.
after LM20.3 showed up, and automatically boots Firefox ( in Startup ) my laptop just froze up solid.

nothing I did, would regain control, and REISUO did not work either.
Sooooooooooo, BIOS killed it after 15 seconds..... I was lucky, no harm done, but even it there was some, Timeshift runs at 2pm every day.

Ventoy is getting good reviews on the forums.
I have used Multi-System forever--confidence and familiarity.
Ventoy is on my bucket list though--among millions of other ideas.

Once you've set up Ventoy (just follow a guide) you just copy the iso to the usb drive. Really is stupid simple.
Only problem is it doesn't seem to like legacy iso.

Not had any issues booting legacy or UEFI with ventoy. I've been using it a lot for foxclone testing - rebuilding the iso numerous times.
