I'm ready for LM21, 20.3 is for crap

Post by AZgl1800 »

I have had nothing but problems with 20.3 Cinnamon,
I thought it was related only to YouTube,
got a lot of help with resolving that, and now can watch 25+ YT videos w/o it crashing.

just a few minutes ago, booted up from an OFF condition ( on vacation, saving battery )
went to Yahoo mail to catch up, and the laptop just locked up solid...

I do not want to back up to LM19.3, too much invested in tuning up 20.3 but my frustration is growing by the day.

One big Plus.............
the OS never gets screwed up, it just halts waiting for a BIOS shutdown,
then reboot and all is well until the next Lockup. :|

If you're looking for help, it would be better to change your title to something descriptive of the issue.

If you are just wanting to rant, then let us know and we will move your topic to the Chat section. As it is right now, you posted in the Debian section of the forum, so I will be moving the topic to the Main Forum section.

I do not use Yahoo mail. Is it just a web-based and this is another browser-based issue?

ah, it is just a Rant, move it to where it belongs, I was at a Rest Stop for a few seconds, needed to use Yahoo Mail to find out where our RV 12VDC Refrigerator is ( in transient ) and the laptop froze.... and yes, it was a browser that locked it up, but that is a total guess.

I am in Alliance, Nebraska tonight at the KOA... nice folks here, we stayed her last week traveling to South Dakota.

I will be one of the first to try out LM21.x when it shows its' head.

If upgrading from 19.3 to 20.3 caused problems, expecting an upgrade to 21 to fix them would be a fool's errand. This is Linux after all. Better to actually solve the problem you have now.

c'mon man leave the elderly alone. you know as well as i do that developers' main task is to improve the old. 19.3 always crashes when i logoff and adds hundreds of megabytes to my ssd which i have to delete. hope developers fixes this in the new versions.

and just by chance did i find my computer doing this when i noticed my root partition slowly getting larger.

I think a re-post of Hoser Rob's statement is now even more appropriate

the 2004 Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler as nearly all RVs do, has Dometic Gas Absorption fridge that uses Propane to heat up the gas.... when it works, it is great, right now, ours is at 44 and -5 ( freezer )

the main problem is the Propane tanks, the standard is two 20 pound tanks, and they have a habit of running out when I am many many miles from a Professional Refill facility....

Yes, you can stop at Joe's Gas Station and Exchange your Certified, good for 10 years, personal tank for a piece of crap that is full, at a horrific price, that is right at Triple what it costs me to just have it filled at home ( $14 )

I have a set of 40 pound tanks, but the hoses don't match up, and some research reveals that I am going to have to go to downtown Tulsa to have a set of premium hoses made up for the extra length required.....

Some math over the next 5 years, reveals that I can buy for $1249.00 a 12VDC compressor Refrigerator that runs off the Battery Supply...... so, no more Propane to buy, if I can find it, that is.

Today, we are almost completely out of gas on the 2nd tank..... thankfully it started raining here a bit ago, so reducing the heat load... maybe, just maybe we can make it home w/o getting more propane.....

Bottom line, I decided to buy the EverChill fridge for a couple of reasons
  • No Propane needed
Will cool down to normal temps in 2 to 4 hours, versus the Propane fridge requires 24 hours to settle down... and you must Preload it with Ice to get it to cool down fast.

not all that bad, actually, and while hooked to the tow vehicle, the Charging line connects the RV battery to the truck's Battery. Disconnect the trailer cord from the truck, plug in the Shore Power supply, and all is well again.

FWIW, I generally find the .1 release to be the most stable. And the initial release usually has the most kinks to work out.

Certainly have trouble getting it my sea kayak. Especially as the gas tanks are only hand size (for the stove) unless I'm using kerosene and a Primus.

And I don't know why anyone has trouble with 20.3, I certainly don't and no one else I know has trouble either.

Yeah, I would tell AZgl1800 to go back to LM 19.3, but his problem is almost certainly hardware related.

I have LM 20.1 on my laptop, and it is solid. But I hardly ever use my laptop.
