So far I am not seeing too many, if any issues with the i5-1240p processor.

So far it appears (at least on HTOP) that the cores on the i5-1240 in the Galago are working very similar to the cores on the HP with the 8 core Ryzen. I am not seeing a lot of processor usage, so I have no way to tell if kernel 5.15 is making the best use of these cores. I am not seeing any overheating issues, battery life has improved but is still not as good as I would hope for, so I am not sure if that is due to kernel optimization or what. I am not seeing in HTOP any odd spikes so that is probably a good thing.

Today's update: Battery life continues to be less than stellar, even compared to the HP Dev One, and I think that there needs to be some sort of optimization for this specific processor architecture. I am pretty sure at this point that unless you have the 5.19 or later kernel this will continue to be an issue. It is making me think about adding the System 76 PPAs which will move it to kernel 6.0. Again I am waiting to be able to "sudo apt install oem-kernel 22.04(x)" for the 6.0+ kernel series. The AMD processor in the HP Dev One with 8/16 is showing marked improvements on battery life with the 5.15 and TLP enabled compared to the Galago Pro.

Maybe it is just this particular computer. I’ve also noticed that my battery life has gotten worse, what I’m getting now is three to maybe four hours out of the battery before I’m have to charge it. This is at 17% brightness, and I think it could be tweaked.

Mint 20.3 has edge iso for latest hardware. Best is to try it with live USB.

I updated everything to Mint 21 so I am sort of there. I am keeping the Lemur Pro and the HP Dev One on 5.15 which works just fine.

12th Gen processors must have 6.0 or later kernels to get the most out of them. I have updated my Galago Pro to a 6.0 kernel.

Yes, if you want a newer kernel, I would only recommend the ones in update manager. The 5.15 LTS kernel is supposed to get the 12th gen Alder Lake goodies backported. https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-515 ... L-Perf-Fix

... still, there's nothing wrong with the tried and true 10th gen 10700k ;)

That article is from April 2022 so the 5.15 kernel has had that particular patch for quite some time.

i have an Asrock i5-1240p mini PC.
It was a challenge to install Mint 21.1 because the kernel 5.15 does not support the GPU.
The boot screen is not visible, so no chance to enter the grub menu, the screen is already black.
My only chance was to modify the ISO image and enter "nomodeset" into grub.conf.
Then it was possibe to install mint in 640x480 resolution, and update the kernel to 5.19, which supports the GPU.
Now Mint 21.1 is running really well.

Is there any other solution which is easier than modifying the ISO image?

If you are not able to see the menu indicated in Linux Mint Installation Boot Options, it might be possible to blindly arrow down to the second option and then hit Enter to get the system to start in Compatibility Mode. Compatibility mode uses nomodeset.

Hello harry4516,
You say the problem is the GPU but do not identify the GPU which makes it difficult for owners of similar devices to find your post. There may be others with different machines but the same graphics facing the same problem. Is it Intel Iris Xe Graphics?

sorry, but everything changed today, I have no clue why.

This week I installed Mint 21.1 on two different Asrock i5-1240p Mini PCs, the screen switched to black as soon as Mint took control over the GPU.
Thats why I did the trick with nomodeset.

Today I installed it again, but now the screen worked without any problems, even with kernel 5.15...

The only difference is another monitor, now it working with the standard kernel very well.
Nevertheless, I will do a kernel update because newer kernels are supposed to support the P and E cores better.

(the GPU is the GPU integrated in the i5-1240p CPU)

I am using a 13th gen Intel (i9-13900k) on Mint 21.1 Cinnamon, Kernel 5.15 and it works perfectly.
