Comparing 21 Xfce, MATE, & Cinnamon and MATE 20.3
4 equal partitions on EVO 860 running 4th gen I7 w/16gb

You can see there is very little difference nowdays
My takeaway is Mint 21 is better at utilizing the available ram.
Using available ram in the right scenario--that's why we have it--use it.

The other difference is GPU. Cinnamon can use a GPU for some things were the others are stuck at CPU speed. Really only relevant for Cinnamon versus MATE. Cinnamon with a GPU or with effects off has the same resource usage as MATE.

If you are limited by resources, the really low usage distributions do more than just switch to Xfce or LXDE, they replace some of the default internal components in the GUI. There are about 464,964,594 combinations you can experiment with. :shock:
