Version 21

Post by JerryF »

Is it me or have many users seem to have had lots of issues with version 21 compared to 20.x? It seems that there were fewer issues with 20.x.

I can, obviously, only answer from a personal viewpoint.
I found Mint 21 easy to install on a brand new Acer laptop that came pre-loaded with Windows 11. Yes, there were some BIOS alterations needed, but everything else worked out of the box.

I think that many of the queries that are about Mint 21 would have happened equally if the OP had tried to load a Mint 20.x version i.e. it is related to installing Mint on new equipment rather than an issue with version 21.
Also Mint 20 is at version .3 and, from what I have seen in the past, the .3 version of a release is as stable as it can get (even if the repositories are holding fairly ancient versions of Applications by then) and so any issues with the system have been long solved.

I am very happy with Mint 21. However I won't install it on my Desktop until later as I will install it from the iso (rather than an in-place upgrade) and that will take some time. So, equally, I am happy running Mint 20.3 as well... :D

Hiyall,
I guess I'm no longer a n00b. I installed Cinnamon 21 on the same refurbished Thinkpad with which I started. Not only was it easy to do but also the result was the most stable and uncomplicated Mint I have so far installed.

Mint 21 works as fine for me as did its predecessors.... Of course you have to take into account that Mint 21 is a brand-new LTS, so an "old" mature LTS like Mint 20.3 is bound to be a bit more polished.

Pjotr,
I actually found that 21 works better. All previous took ages to boot in and shutdown. 21 does it in an instant - a few seconds.

No problems here whatsoever. It's been completely solid, stable, and a pleasure to use.

Have you asked for help with any of the problems you're experiencing?

Yes, but no solution on headphone jack. Probably due to laptop being very new. Not a serious issue, just annoying.

Thanks.

Mint 21 is working without any issues on my mid 2012 macbook pro. I have yet to install it on my desktop but that should ...fingers crossed, go without problems too.
Sincerely,

With LM21.0 I've got issues with cheese and conky and could not get fslint to install (czkawka is an alternative) so I'm sticking with LM20.3 for the time being.

I have 21.1 beta up and running in a VM and it's looking good so far as well.
