I have had several music applications with Linux Mint. Rhythmbox is a straight forward music application however to get the best sound quality with my music system, Audacious with alsa enabled is outstanding.

I use deadbeef, a light, fast alternative to foobar. There's a portable version that's ideal for me, personally.

banshee in gnome.

I liked rhythmbox, my only beef with it was that you can't edit ID3 tags (perhaps this has been resolved?).

I always liked amarok because I like listening to shoutcast and the shoutcast script always worked, but after one of the updates,
it no longer works. Exaile was my second choice, but shoutcast no longer works in it either. In fact shoutcast doesn't work on anything.
Therefore, one player is about as good (or bad) as another.

Yeah!
why is audacious 1.4 not visible on repositories?

No other player comes close to the speed and ease of audacious.

I use Banshee, nice integration with conky, shoutcast and it handles my Huge library without the dreaded grey out ;)

Yep, the equalizer is pretty sweet compared to others I have seen on Linux. Too bad you can't save equalizer presets.
And it has highly advanced audio plugins which I don't think are available on other players. :P

I am not sure about 1.4, but 2.4.2 is the version available on the repositories.

The interface sucks though. There are few management tools and it's not simple to use.

Hey there is an update for the shoutcast script in Amarok and now it works perfectly again! Life is good.

I believe I meant 2.4 only.
However, its not visible on the Mint 9 repos.

How can you see the 2.4.2?

I use Linux Mint 10. IDK about LM9.

If you don't have it see here: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/01/install- ... u-ppa.html

I abandoned the use of locally installed music players in favor of an Rdio subscription last month. I still have my music collection on an external hard drive, but I don't believe I'll be using it any time soon.
