Linux Mint

Postby npap » Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:16 pm

Hi everybody,
There is a problem with Spotchat: When you try to join the #linuxmint.com
channel, you are redirected to Spotchat.de and you get a warning that 'there is no such channel'.
To access the #linuxmint.com channel, click on Network.
You will see a long list of channels there. Just select #linuxmint.com .

Now you are in. But don't expect to get a quick response or any response at all.
The channel is very quiet.

It works fine from here. You're right though, the channel is very quiet. Hopefully people will get use to open xchat and start being more present in there.

ok....... I'm totally unfamiliar with xchat, and relatively new to linux (but loving Mint!!!).... Could one of you wise "elders" walk me through setting up xchat
(specifically spotchat and the linuxmint chat)? Thanks much! :P

No problem. Under Bea:

Applications->Internet->Xchat-Gnome

and that's it ! Xchat-Gnome was tweaked and preconfigured to automatically log you in the Linux Mint channel on the Spotchat server.

Hmmmmm............. when I open xchat it just has a list of different chat clients,
I don't see spotchat or anything like that on the list at all. Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you are opening the wrong one. There are 2 one is xchat the other is xchat gnome. Open the xchat gnome and you should be on in a couple secs.

The xchat gnome is the one I clicked on, it only gives me the list of servers.
I wonder if I accidentally messed something up? All I've done so far is install the updates, as well as the Bianca repository....????? any ideas  thanks much

Not real sure. I dont use it. I did log on a few times a while back testing. It worked fine then for me. I know that don't help you with your problem. Maybe one of the other guys will be in here with ideas for you in a while.

you can close all the dialogs and then type the following commands to connect to the channel:

/server irc.spotchat.org
/join #linuxmint.com

Cool... You can use the info clem give you to setup a network to connect to each time. Open xchat irc and the network list comes up. Select add and gave it a name LinuxMint. Then highlight LinuxMint on the list and select edit. Then highlight the server it defaulted to and change it to

irc.spotchat.org

and under channels to join put in

#linuxmint.com

The next time you open either one LinuxMint will be in the list to connect to.
