It can be hit or miss. Some have clear instructions. Some clearly outline the dependencies required. I've had some experiences where the instructions were clear, but even still ran into dependency issues. All the projects I have run into have simple instructions with things like copy these commands and paste into terminal
Then extract folder, cd to folder do sudo ./install.sh.
I have used a GRUB theme, a driver for my laptops numpad touchpad(broken due to update), piper(G502 utility made by community), OpenRGB.
I'd say overall I haven't run into too many major problems. The problem is that when you do run into a major problem it becomes very difficult to figure out yourself and there aren't as many resources for help.
But I do find his issues with downloading files from github to be odd. I've never run into that issue. I guess I haven't tried to just download an individual file and usually just clone it or download the zip file.
