Creating a Distribution

Post by MattyC157 » Wed May 30, 2012 2:24 pm

Hello!
I have been using Linux for a few weeks now and i have been rather intrested in making my own distrobution based upon another. I have used SuseStudio and have created a simple one from that. I was wandering if i could make a distro based off of Linux Mint which i can create myself and call my own.
If there is any tool that i would be able to use or something which is fully customizable that i can create an Linux OS from i would be grateful if someone could send it to me. I basically need a relatively easy to use peice of kit that i can create an easy OS which i can add my own Packages and Repositories to.
Thankyou.

Dont worry, I did read that before posting, but I was really wondering how exactly you would go about creating a distribution based on Linux Mint. I have done some research but it all seems to point to SUSE Studio and I would rather not create a distro based off of SUSE. I have read the rules but just wondering how to go about starting the creation. Thankyou for the reply.

From that very thread:

zerozero,
I would like to thank you so much for the link you posted !

I have spent the last few hours purging programs I don't want and installing ones I do want , and I did all the current updates.
As a plus I learned how to edit using nano when I updated the sources.list ;-)
I have spent so many hours doing all this each time I installed Mint again , but now when I need to install I have
all my changes and tweeks and current updates already done. Such a big time saver and now my own personalized version of mint ! :-)
Everything is already there and done even when I boot it Live.

Who else in the Linux world but Clem would teach you how to rip open his OS and change it anyway that suits you ?
THANKS Clem ! You are THE MAN !
Now if you can just talk Mr. Gates into doing the same thing...

Did you ever "deskmod" Windows? Works!
Linux is not the only answer! :: eD2k/Kad mirrors for Linux Mint and LMDE.
Users who misspell "Windows" as "Windoze" intentionally will be considered stupid.
