Cinnarch - Arch based distro with Cinnamon default session

Post by bimsebasse »

What the title says! There is a new distro out which appears to be a noob friendly Arch spin with Cinnamon as its default session.

I haven't tried Cinnarch (or any Arch-based distro, for that maatter), but it's another indicator that Cinnamon is a big hit. Congratulations to the Linux Mint team! I can't think of any other distro that has accomplished so much with so few people.

Recently I've downloaded it and give it a try... On the Live CD it was fast and responsive, so I decided to install it. Then with a super slow internet connection, I downloaded all the packages, and was ready to install it. But then somehow the text-based installer failed to install GRUB...

Is there any other advantage over a default Arch with CInnamon added?

Saves the hassle of setting up X and a DE / WM

There is even ArchBang for Openbox lovers, and BridgeLinux for XFCE enthusiasts.

But if you are using Arch, you want to do it all yourself manually anyway, right?

"The hassle". Like, editing two files. OK. Totally worth using it. ;)
