Adding Mint specifics to Ubuntu Minimal KDE?

Post by Spec-chum »

Hi all, I do realise this is a cheeky question, so please inform me if it breaks any rules and I'll remove it right away...

I got a bit impatient waiting for Olivia KDE so I decided to do a custom Ubuntu KDE install using the minimal install to install the base system and only kde-plasma-desktop and my choice of selected software. Everything is working tickety boo...

...but I can't help thinking I'm missing out on some Minty KDE goodness - but still want my minimal approach.

What software is in Mint repos but not in Ubuntu ones? Could I just add the mint repo and install them?

I guess the main question is are there any changes under the hood I'd need to do to achieve installing, for example, the mint software installer? I use Muon at the mo :)

This is about Ubuntu, so moved here. Packages that are extra in Linux Mint: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Olivia. The default repositories for Linux Mint 15 are:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com olivia main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu raring main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu raring-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ raring partner
You'll need to add at least the first line. You won't get the same experience as with Linux Mint 15 KDE just with that, as you'll need to install some of the Linux Mint packages from its repository. And the default preferences on your account will differ.
