First of all, can you connect with your ethernet cable?

Since I haven't tried Elementary, I'm not sure about the distro and how it performs with your notebook. Does the Elementary use Network Manager or another app to access you wifi? You might try installing wicd from your ppa or software/package manager (Or install it via cli (sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wicd). You should be able to see your wifi network and connect using wicd. Good luck! :)

I *think* you can install proprietary drivers in ElemetaryOS just like you do in Mint.
There should be something like a "Driver Manager" or an option off Software Sources that will inspect your hardware and present you list of options you can select.
